Howler – America Give Up

So here’s the thing, I want to dislike this record for a number of reasons.

Reason #1: Front man Jordan Gatesmith looks like a wanker, but this could be because I’m on the wrong side of 25 and he’s not even 20 yet.

Reason #2: The album reminds me of how much I miss The Libertines.

Reason #3: My first impression of the album was that it was rubbish, but upon repeated listens I have (reluctantly) changed my mind. So I’m disappointed in myself, really.

  1. I’m an avid Libertines fan, so does this mean I should get the album? Lol, i’ve heard a few of Howlers songs and they sound really bad, But I haven’t listened to all of the album, so is there shit on there and some decent stuff?

Hey wordsformusic…Howler is a tough one for me because the guy’s voice is really grating at first. I wanted to write the album off after the first spin, but there were a few songs on there that I liked. Ultimately the more and more I listened to the album, the more and more I liked it. If you’re a Libertines/The Cribs fan I think you’ll at least find a handful of tracks that you’ll like. Maybe see if you can find an album stream somewhere before picking it up?

      • Yeah I think that’s what I’m gonna do, when they first came out people were linking them to the strokes as well, and after to listening to about two of their songs, I weren’t keen on em’. But think I will give it a listen (Y)

Giving it a spin certainly wouldn’t hurt, I certainly didn’t like it at first. Anyway, let me know what you think!

      • I will do, I’ve gave it a couple of listens and just finishing up the blog now
