Andrew Bird’s bizarre blend of classical and pop music returns with Break It Yourself, creating lush songs with the same charm and wit that made previous records immensely rewarding.
Bird’s lyrics are just as mystifying as ever, like when he pulls a Marky Mark via M. Night Shyamalan’s flora/fauna revenge flick The Happening, and laments the decline of the world’s bee population.
It is more of the same though. The music of Andrew Bird is an acquired taste, so if you enjoyed Bird’s prior efforts, you’ll find a lot to like. If not, Break It Yourself can be hard to bite into.
